2021 IBC & IFC Fire Protection Systems

Location Details: IN-PERSON: San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins, San Marcos, TX

Program:

This seminar is designed to guide participants through the 2021 IFC requirements to fire protection systems (Chapter 9). These requirements include suppression systems, standpipe systems, automatic fire alarm systems, automatic detection systems, and additional fire protection assemblies. Because the 2021 IFC and Chapter 9 of the 2021 IBC have such broad scopes, the focus of this class is to review design, construction, inspection, and testing requirements for fire sprinkler systems, fire-extinguishing systems, standpipe systems, fire alarm and detection, smoke control and removal systems. This seminar will provide code officials and design professionals with:

  • A review of chapter 9 fire protection system requirements in the 2021 IFC and 2021 IBC.
  • The design and operation of various fire-extinguishing and fire detection and signaling systems.
  • A review of the applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards for fire protection systems.
  • The requirements for the inspection and maintenance of fire protection systems.

Presenter: Patrick Vandergriff

Some of the roles he has served have been as a design/build contractor, city building official, has taught self-sponsored classes for contractor associations, American Institute of Architects (AIA), and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), third-party verification for field development and testing for materials seeking code approvals, and has developed alternative methods and materials testing for verification of code compliance. Since 1982, Patrick has been a contract instructor for ICC and ICBO, teaching topics such as fire, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes and inspections, structural and non-structural plan review, and how to build department management and legal practices for code administration.
