Program: 

For this seminar, David Garnaat will discuss public safety radio systems, to include challenges with in-building radio coverage, ways to avoid interference, and assuring code compliance. He will also discuss how to inspect and certify a BDA/ERCES system. Roy Underwood will be discussing the yesterday, today, and tomorrow of life safety and acoustics, along with the who, what, and where they are needed. He will talk about what future considerations need to considered when it comes to life safety and security advisory.

Emergency Responder Communications Systems

  • UL 2524 standard and UL listing requirements

Presenter 1: David Garnaat, SET

David J. Garnaat is currently celebrating 3 years with Siemens as the Lone Star Territory Sales Manager. He served more than 4 years in the U.S. Air Force as a Telephone and Data Circuitry Specialist.  After returning from Desert Storm, David started a business and spent almost 25 years as a Pyrotonics/Siemens Fire distributor. During those years he has managed millions of dollars in fire alarm contracts nationwide and overseas with the GSA, FAA, DOD, and the DOL. David currently holds a NICET Level IV in Fire Alarm Systems and is serving on the board of the Texas Fire Alarm Association.



Presenter 2: Roy Underwood

Roy Underwood has 40 years of life safety industry experience which include field operations and design/sales support, district and regional manager of operations and design for SimplexGrinnell, and fire protection services in consulting and on large-scale government projects. For 32 years he has been NICET certified and licensed in the state of Texas as a fire alarm planner.  He has both designed and managed design and installation for emergency voice and mass notification systems in large-scale facilities for government and commercial projects.
