Is the Code Right?
The Impact of Scaled Testing vs. Prescriptive Code and Standard Requirements

Joint Meeting of TFPA and the NFSA Texas Chapter

Location Details:
Online meeting - participation details will be emailed to registrants prior to the event.

Program: Codes & standards - researched, developed, and promulgated based upon logic, science, facts, and tests…right? Not always. Many times, codes and standards governing fire sprinkler system designs do not address a particular hazard, commodity classification, or application. That’s when further research, testing, facts, figures, and perhaps a resultant "Performance Based Design" enter the picture. This presentation discusses fire protection scenarios not necessarily addressed by codes and standards, and for which further testing and evaluation was necessary in order to develop a clearer picture of the hazard or commodity to ensure resultant protection criteria could be developed accordingly.

Presenter:
Greg Gordon, Business Development Manager, Johnson Controls.
Greg began his fire protection career in 1978 in Cleveland, Ohio on the contracting side of the fire sprinkler business, subsequently working in Cincinnati and Dallas. He joined the product manufacturing side of the business in 1985 as a manufacturer’s representative for BlazeMaster® CPVC fire sprinkler systems. Greg joined Central Sprinkler Company in 1988 as the Southwest Regional Sales Manager, a job that he held through the 1999 acquisition of Central by Tyco until his appointment as Business Development Manager in 2005.  He is based in Coppell, Texas.
